The Project

The CirOWa Cluster (Circle of Waste Cluster) is a cluster of businesses involved in the chain of waste generated by food production and processing plants. The CirOWa Cluster is designed to cover the entire waste management production chain and serve the objectives of the circular economy. The operation of the Cluster is based on the following four axes:

  • Development of integrated waste collection and management systems with the application of traceability in the recycling chain
  • Monitoring and exchange of know-how, utilisation of waste generated and installation/operation of necessary equipment.
  • Fostering innovation in the field of waste treatment, biomass production and, more generally, environmental technologies relevant to the sector.
  • Complementary services, which support the achievement of the objectives for the other three axe

This research proposal is the first coordinated effort of CirOWa Cluster members to create value through their cooperation in actions related to the application of the principles of circular economy in the real economy of our country and more specifically constitutes an integrated systemic approach to the management of residues and by-products of businesses involved in the food industry.

Through close cooperation of the 10 project partners, processes related to by-product and waste management will be modeled and innovative systems will be developed at Pilot level utilizing information, communication and Internet of Things technologies for the more rational and efficient management of processes for upgrading waste and/or by-products (upcycles) and their reintegration into the economy in a new form and/or function.
